When I saw this I wondered, what could have caused such brutality? What are your opinions? If people do this just because of a small dispute, what would they do if it was larger? I'm currious about what you think.

Hello. I couldn't access the link, but if you are talking about the cheerleader who was beat up and had it posted on youtube -- well I am disgusted by it. I am in shock that someone could do that to another and then show no remorse. I think that those individuals would have reacted the same way in a larger situation -- there must have been more factors leading up to the incident that made them so hateful. I think that it was irrational, and although pre-planned I don't think those responsible thought through the situation enough to gauge if it was a big or small deal... does that make any sense? It's like 11:00 and I'm tired, so i may even read this in the morning and be like "what was i talking about???"

Yea... I was talking about that. But here's the thing that is really disgusting - the mother of one of the girls was interviewed and basically, this woman said that even though she wasn't condoning what her daughter did, the victim should bear some responsibility because she posted a bad comment on her My Space page and she should have expected to pay for it. I am not sure what I am disgusted by more, the girls who did this or the mother who thinks it isn't a big deal. I have been doing a lot of research for my bullies piece and this kind of thing - people getting beat up for a You Tube video is actually pretty common and it is pretty sick. The attitude that the victim deserved it seems to be pretty common, too. Anyway, I thought I would blog about it and get some other opinions and perspective. :-)

The other thing I am interested in is whether you think things like YouTube encourages people to do things they wouldn't normally do to get their 15 minutes of fame.

I couldn't view it either! Dude! Maybe it's just my computer...I'll try again later. It sounds pretty crazy though.

My friend and I were discussing this and she says it makes her lose faith in the goodness of humanity. I'm still sticking to my guns that there is some good in every person, but it gets harder and harder these days.

Wow. I want to get inside these people's heads and see what they were thinking when this happened. I know that people beat each other up, and it is just awful. But I really don't understand why they would film it. I just have no connection or idea about this. It is so hard for me to even fathom...
